Looking forward to spending time with my kids and husband tonight reminiscing. It's one of my favorite things to do with my family. We'll pile on top of each other on the couch and look at one of our albums. This is one of my favorite albums of our family. How to Avoid Holiday Production Delays

We know how important your holiday orders are and don't want to see them delayed. As part of our ongoing effort to ensure that your holiday orders are processed accurately and efficiently, we offer a few simple tips. Follow these guidelines and you'll help us to avoid the most common production delays.

Borders: When designing prints with borders for the Iris and Whistler flush-mounted albums, allow a minimum 1/2 inch border between the image and the outer edge of the print. This is to guarantee that the border remains and is balanced after trimming. Please note up t0 1/8 inch will be trimmed off of the outer 3 sides of each print.

Full Bleed: When designing full bleed prints for the Iris and Whistler books allow for trimming to prevent awkward crops. Up to 1/8 inch will be trimmed off of three sides of each print. The side of the image that touches the inside spine (gutter) WILL NOT be trimmed.

Layout: Email or submit a hard copy of a layout guide to assist our artisans in constructing your custom album.

Additional Helpful Reminders:

- For The Iris & Whistler albums, the print size is the same as book size. A 10x10 book has 10x10 prints mounted to the edge of each page. Please send files or prints to size.

- Don't forget to supply a cover image with your files or prints, if applicable.

- Finally, look over your order form thoroughly before submitting and call with any questions.

This is a beautiful set of heirlooms that we created for Corbin Gurkin Photography. They are so exquisite! The albums are custom Iris Books with Platinum fabric and a custom oval opening on the front cover for the logo used throughout their wedding. The Iris Book was perfect for highlighting these amazing images taken in Paris. These heirlooms are such a gift and will be treasured for many generations! We love them!

I am always emphasizing great presentation for your images. I think it's so, so important. When a client receives loose images that are in an envelope or a black cardboard box it sends a different message than if they receive them in a handmade box or matted or carefully wrapped in ribbon. Good presentation emphasizes the value and the great artistry that has gone into creating your images. You communicate to your clients with presentation. Not only are the products that you choose important, but don't forget about packaging. It's just as important. Again, it communicates to your clients and when done well, it says, "there is something special inside." Get your clients excited before they open it!! Everyone loves to unwrap ....your images are a gift!

My Family/Pregnancy...

Ask my family to sit for a family picture and it's probably not going to happen. Our idea of a family picture is more like wrestling....which I love!! I really love how the spirit of our family is captured in these images. I delivered about 3 weeks after this photo shoot and we welcomed Miss Atlee CrimsonT into our family. Having a baby is such a special time and we are so lucky to have these images. Now we have one more to add to the wrestling match for the next family photo shoot!!

Special Thank You to Yvette Roman for taking wonderful family/pregnancy images of all three of our kids...we will cherish them forever.

Many people ask us about colors. I really love using complimentary colors on our Heirloom Albums. I like the contrast and you can really enhance the colors in the wedding and/or event by choosing colors that go with the images. For this book, we used ice blue and verde green fabric. It was perfect for the images and the color combination is stunning. If you need help choosing colors, don't hesitate to call us! We want your Heirloom to be perfect!

Folios are not only the perfect gift for grandparents and other family members, they are also great little books and frames to have in your home. I love the warmth and feel of the them. I just love this image of my 4 year old son. Yvette Roman recently took this image during my pregnancy photos. Of course, I love it because it's my little guy, but the texture is also so beautiful along with the thoughts it provokes of being a child, climbing trees.....everything is your playground. Our two new linen fabrics are a big hit! You can see them today and tomorrow, 11-4pm, at the ProPhoto Trade Show in Pasadena. The Vintage Linen (album with image) has a golden tone. The English Linen (album on the bottom) is smoother and has more of a white tone. They are both really beautiful and they look great with any ribbon color!

This 11x14 Iris Book was just created for photographer Lisa Lefkowitz. I love this heirloom book! The imprinting on the front of the album is so exquisite it creates a wonderful anticipation of seeing the images inside. And the new English Linen was perfect for this book.

Custom Photo & Jewelry Box.....

This is a wonderful custom Presentation Box that we just created for a photographer. Two of the slip-in cases on the left side of the box have velvet jewelry holders. There is a removable mat for a print that is magnetically held into the box. We also created a custom envelope out of fabric that slips under the tray and is easily removed with the ribbon. As you can see the possibilities are endless! It's great to have everything from the wedding day all perfectly stored in an Heirloom Presentation Box. I love it!

I love this custom Presentation Box that we just created. The Presentation Box was created with English Linen fabric and has a Mini-Folio with Crimson fabric. The Mini-Folio is magnetized so it easily lifts from the box. Additionally there is a self-mounted album (or it can be a Guest Book) made with Chocolate Brown fabric in the top tray of the box along with Museum Board Mats that are gently tucked in a separate tray below the album. The Mats are easily removed with a lift ribbon. There are so many options in one elegant box!

This was such a great project that I really enjoyed working on with our amazing Cypress team. In fact, I can't wait to make one of these for myself! I just love it!! There are so many possibilities when it comes to custom boxes and albums...or any of our products. Let us know if there is something special that you want to create. We just finished creating this Cypress Album for Adeline & Grace Weddings and I love it! The cover is so classic and elegant. This invitation was just meant to be on the cover. Invitations can be mounted on the cover, inside the cover, or on any page of the album. It's a great idea to add an invitation to an album. There are so many keepsakes after a wedding and it's so nice to have the invite included with your heirloom album. Speeches and poems can also be added to your album. A simple and elegant pocket can be added to the inside of your Presentation Box to hold some of the wonderful keepsakes from the wedding too. The possibilities are endless. Just contact us and we will help you add these options to your design.

Celebration Time!!

Yes, after we finished all of our holiday orders, it was celebration time for Cypress at the bowling alley! We were so happy that we had a great holiday season and although we were all exhausted, we had plenty of energy to do some bowling and eat alot of food! Creating Heirlooms...

Photographers often tell me that they want to offer something special, with great quality to their clients. At PhotoPlus, this year I heard this request more than ever. I heard many statements of albums all looking the same. Needless to say, I consider it a great, great compliment that many photographers come to Cypress to fulfill this need of wanting something really special and of the highest quality. More than this wonderful compliment, it means that there is a movement back to getting an Heirloom, not just an album.

Yes, I am a romantic, but an Heirloom is so much more than an album or a book. An Heirloom, by definition, is something that is passed down for generations through family members or the

estate. Imagine grandkids and great grandkids learning about and seeing their family through the wonderful Heirloom that you are creating for them. I love thinking about the number of people who will have Cypress Heirlooms in their family. It is such an honor to be able to work at a more traditional bindery where Heirlooms are hand-crafted everyday by master artisans.

Hand-crafting Heirlooms is meticulous, careful work that we take very seriously. Creating Heirloom albums that you love is also something that we take very seriously and have a great passion for. We also love to design and create new products specifically for you. So if you have an idea, I am sure that we can create it for you. And, most importantly, I encourage everyone to create Heirlooms!

Please note this deadline does not include printing. For printing services with any of these albums, we must receive by Nov. 3.

Nov. 24- The Artisan Book, C Albums, The Folio, & Proof Boxes

Please note this deadline does not include printing. For printing services with any of these albums, we must receive by Nov. 17.

All orders received by the above dates will be delivered via FedEx Ground shipping and will arrive on or before Dec 22. Please note that our holiday deadlines are earlier this year to ensure Ground delivery. All orders received up to 5 business days after these dates will require Express delivery. Orders received beyond 5 business days will be Rush orders and will be accepted based on availability. Due to the high volume of orders, we recommend ordering as soon as possible in order to avoid the high cost of Express shipping. Our deadlines are the last possible date that we can receive the order to guarantee Ground shipping and delivery before Christmas. If your order needs to arrive before Dec 22, please contact us.

Ahhh...to be a kid...playing, discovering, innocence, imagination, creativity. Kids have a wonderful magic about them that can light up any room at any moment. I love that so many parents collaborate with professional photographers to document and capture some of those amazing moments. My kids are now 7 and 3 years old and I love, love, love having albums of their images. We professionally photograph the family, with a focus on the kids, about every 1.5 years. And kids love looking at the albums too! Albums are an amazing gift for the family and the kids!

Many people find it hard to choose an album. Consider these questions and suggestions when making your choice:

Do you want to mount the images or do you want the bookbinder to mount?

Choose a self-mounted album if you want to mount the images and keep costs down. Choose a custom mounted album if you don't want to do any mounting.

Choose a style that YOU love.

Couples are choosing you for your photography and your style. More often than not, they will like what you like. Simplify and stay consistent with your branding. This sends a message of confidence to your clients.

Matted Album or Flush-Mounted Album?

Both of these styles are great, but each has a very different look. Matted albums are more traditional and allow the person viewing the images to enjoy each and every image. Each image is separated by a mat which visually slows the viewer while looking at the images. Flush-mounted albums have a smoother look in which all the images are on the same surface. This creates a visual flow that allows the viewer to look through the images at a faster pace. Matted Albums and Flush-mounted albums are both an excellent choice. Choose the style that you love and looks best with your images!

How long do you want the album to last?

In today's market there are many choices, so this is an important question. If you want your client's albums to last for many generations, choose albums that hold actual photographic prints. Make sure the album is completely archival. Choose a reputable and knowledgeable bookbinder. The best quality albums are handcrafted. Lastly, visit your bookbinder and see their craftsmanship.

Here's a really great 12x12 Iris Book that we just completed for Morgan Lynn Photography. I just love the (3) 1x1 images that are mounted in the bottom right corner of the cover. It is so sophisticated, modern and timeless. It's beautiful, we wanted to give you a quick glimpse of this album. We just love our new Whistler Book! ...And I love this wedding by A Bryan Photo too! The entire story that this album tells is just beautiful. The snowy, romantic wedding day at this small church in the country is stunning. There is a wonderful combination of simplicity, elegance and beauty that is contrasted with raw, natural, rustic materials. I just love the elegance of the bride and her dress against the snow with the barns in the background. Even the bride's snow boots are elegant!

The entire album feels so romantic with the images and the covers wrapped in an elegant bookbinding fabric and protected with our Cypress Presentation Box. I love the thought of their children someday opening this box and having this beautiful album unveil the beauty and story of their parents wedding day. Yes, once again I am a hopeless romantic!

We are so excited about our new imprinting font. Our new font is Agency Gothic. It's simple, clean and larger than our Edinburgh font. The images show it blind embossed on our 10x10 Presentation Box. It's time for WPPI. We are so excited about the show. We will be introducing two new albums: The Whistler Book and The Magnolia Book. Our new CypressPackaging line will also be introduced. It includes our Cypress Folders, Cypress Ribbon and more. Lastly we will have our new Cypress Color Portfolio Boxes, Folios and Artisan Books available for purchase at the show. And, as always, we do take orders at the show!

I love this combination of colors and images. This is one of my favorite wedding books photographed by Jose Villa. The Iris Book and The Folio were created with the light plum fabric. A Song for Dena and Cypress...........

This morning I was greated with a song from A Bryan Photo that I just have to share. First, I will give you a little information before you listen. I have had the pleasure of working with the A Bryan Photo team for several years now. They are great photographers, very creative and I feel honored that we create all of their books for them. Bryan Johnson from A Bryan Photo was having one of his great workshops this week in Birmingham, AL. ( If you haven't been to his workshops, I highly recommend them.) I was set to speak at the workshop, but due to some unfortunate circumstances, I wasn't able to attend and our great Customer Care Specialist, Brian Arguijo, went in my place. Brian A. had a great time, but I was bummed that I couldn't be there as I had attended their workshop in the Spring 2009 and I knew it would be amazing. Folios are such great gifts, especially for the holidays. They make a beautiful frame to place on a mantel and they fold into a nice little book. Last year I gave this 6x6 Tri-Folio to many of my family members as a gift for the holidays. Everyone loved it, including my kids Cy & Samara! All orders will be shipped via FedEx Ground or Express Services. As the holiday approaches, we will use express services at our discretion to ensure holiday delivery. Due to the high volume of orders, we recommend ordering as soon as possible in order to avoid the high cost of express shipping. Please note that our deadlines are the last possible date that we can receive the order to guarantee delivery before Christmas.

We created this great set of Iris Books for J Wilkinson Co in Texas. They chose an 8x8 Iris Book for their engagement photos and a 12x12 Iris Book for their wedding photos. My Favorite Album...

Yes, it's my family album! I love this set so much! We created an 8x8 Iris Book, Custom 4x6 Proof Box, & a 6x6 Tri-Folio with Chocolate Brown and Ice Blue Fabric. Yvette Roman photographed our family and it was so much fun. With my daughter, 5 1/2, and my son, 2 1/2, anything can happen, and it did.

As we all began playing, the kids decided to "dress-up" and they decided to dress-up mommy and daddy too! Within seconds mommy was dressed as a witch and daddy was a princess! The day ended with a family portrait of us piled on top of each other laughing on the sofa. Yvette really captured a normal day in our lives and my husband and I are so happy to have this set of great images! As my daughter gets ready to start school again and my son starts preschool, I can't stop looking at this album and seeing how much they have grown so quickly.

In May/June of this year we created duplicate books for both grandparents as gifts for Mother's and Father's Day and they were speechless. They are still talking about these albums today!

The Artisan Book

Here's a great album that we recently created. The images are by Susie Q. Varin and are mounted in The Artisan Book. Although it's a self-mount album, we can also mount the images for you for a small mounting fee. The Artisan Book above shows the optional clean, crisp, vellum between the pages. I really like the look and feel of this album with the vellum pages. The vellum is a heavyweight vellum and it isn't easily creased. I also love the colors of this album. The light plum (BC10) fabric with cranberry ribbon (custom color) is simply delicious!

In July, I had the pleasure of speaking at Yvette Roman's workshop in Venice, CA. I really enjoyed talking about business, marketing, albums, and getting to know photographers and their specific businesses. It is always great to share business ideas and approaches and see how those ideas can work for each individual business.

Business is constantly evolving and every business has to continue to evolve in order to sustain itself. I think this is the exciting part. I really enjoy reinventing, trying new approaches, and designing new elements and presentations. This is often the most challenging aspect of business as well. Workshops can stimulate ideas and offer different perspectives that energize you and your business. I highly recommend going to at least 1-2 workshops every year!
